apr 20, 1820 - Missouri Compromise
Description:
A compromise passed by the United States Congress to allow Missouri to join the Union as a Slave State. In return, Maine would be cleaved off of Massachusetts and enter as a free state, in order to preserve the balance of power. Keeping with Sectionalism, it defined the 36° 30' parallel as the line between Slavery and Free State, effectively dividing the nation into sections over slavery.
