- Martin Luther King was chosen as the leader for the boycott
- Not the first time someone was arrested for not giving up their seat
- Rosa Parks refused to give up seat; Initiated a boycott on the bus
- 2/3 of the bus riders were blacks before the boycott
- Almost no black riders on the buses in Montgomery
- Bombs were thrown into the houses of leaders of the boycott
- The Supreme Court ruled unanimously that the buses were not constitutional
- Outlawed segregation in local buses
