jan 1, 1970 - Discover of Mercury Poisoning in Grassy Narrows

Description:

High levels of mercury were found in the drinking water of an Anishinaabe community in Grassy Narrows., as a result of the dumping of toxic materials from pulp and paper mill, Dryden Chemicals. Even though main sources of food such as fish had proved to contained lethal amounts of mercury, the Canadian government still dubbed them safe for consumption. The Anishinaabe suffered the consequences and still suffer from them today. This historical event debunks the myth because it shows the lack of compassion and care provided by the government to the Anishinaabe people.
