apr 11, 1968 - Civil Rights Act of 1968

Description:

Washington, DC

The Civil Rights Act of 1968 was enacted by the 90th congress and was signed into law by LBJ. The act followed in the footsteps of the 1964 legislation and clearly prohibited discrimination concerning the sale, rental, and financing of housing based on race, religion, national origin, and since 1974, gender. The act also provided protections and extended the Bill of Rights to Native Americans. The bill would give the federal govt more power in enforcing anti-discrimination laws. It came as a result of many minorities receiving subpar and sometimes no housing do to their race.
