apr 20, 1971 - Swann v. Charlotte Mecklenburg BOD
Description:
Charlotte-Mecklenburg, NC
US Supreme Court
After little had been done to desegregate schools after the Brown decision in places such as Charlotte-Mecklenburg the Burger court decided unanimously that federal courts were constitutionally authorized to get involved in integration and set out remedies for states that were still segregating. This resulted in courts being able to address schools that did not properly follow the Brown decision and would force many to properly integrate.
