jan 1, 1500 - Cesarean Section

Description:

C section births were practiced throughout the middle ages, but was done because the mother was diseased or had no chance of survival. Around the year 1500, a swiss farmer by the name Jacob Nufer performed a successful C section of his wife. She had undergone labour for several days with the help of 13 midwives, but was unable to deliver the baby until her husband began the procedure. The wife went on to deliver 5 more children, and the baby lived to be 77 years old.
