jan 1, 1854 - Florence Nightingale

Description:

Loved to learn and read, wanted to work as a nurse, her family disapproved.
Nurses were not professional at the time, but Florence refused to give in.
She was asked to teach and take care of the sick in the Crimean War. Her team treated battlefield casualties.
Before her injured soldiers hardly got better but with her help many returned home.
She was a stickler for hygiene and cleaned up the whole hospital with her team.
She thought people should expect good hygiene, food and the chace to let nature heal injuries.
She provided clean sheets and had a calm bedside manner, she was kind and read to her patients, she visited them at night and became known as the lady with the lamp.
When the war ended Florence stayed until every soldier got better.
She had a trust fund set up in her honour and used the money to open a nursing school. Nursing was professionalised and wore clean uniforms.
