jan 1, 1800 - Election of 1800

Description:

The Election of 1800 was the first election in our nation's history where an opposition "party" had won the presidency. It is important because it included a peaceful transition of power, which is a large part of our democracy today. Additionally, while campaigning and during his presidency, Jefferson tried to appeal to the common man using plain folks appeals. The idea of appealing to normal people to get elected is something which is significant in our elections today. (Picture is what Jefferson might've looked like answering the door in his robe, as part of an appeal to common folk).
