jan 1, 1820 - Missouri Compromise
Description:
The Missouri Compromise was a compromise surrounding the issue of slavery. It added Missouri as a slave state and Maine as a free state, as well as stating that, in the new territory, anything above the 30 degree 30’ parallel would not have slaves. By implementing this compromise, it kept slavery a large part of southern culture and gave them a fair amount of power in the government due to representation.
