dec 1, 1813 - Hartford Convention
Description:
Before the Hartford Convention, many Federalists in New England were incredibly unhappy with the war of 1812 even starting. They created a resolution restricting the powers of the federal government at the time, and, specifically, called for a ⅔ vote in congress to be able to declare war. This resolution embodies the cultural divide between the Federalists and Democratic Republicans, as well as showing the flip the two parties had, where Federalists called for less Federal power, and the Democratic Republicans were fine with more Federal power.
