jan 1, 1808 - International Slave Trade Outlawed in U.S.

Description:

The outlawing of the international slave trade meant that only slaves within the country could be used, and no one could import slaves from out of the country. Since it caused a decrease in the number of slaves available to Americans, it was meant to slowly get rid of slavery and create a culture independent of slave labor. However, it caused an increase in desire for slave labor, and the culture surrounding slave owning in the South continued.
