mar 1, 1827 - Ports Closed to the British
Description:
JQ Adams proclaimed all US ports closed to trade with the British and their colonies. This was a climax in continued disagreements over tariffs, duties, and navigation, and was also a sign of the US' stance on exclusive trade relationships. This affected trade both then and in the future as it showed that the US wanted free trade for all and would not tolerate exclusive trading. This is extremely important as it set the precedence that the US would always support its values, even if it would end up loosing things because of that support.
