jan 1, 1808 - Outlawing of Slave Trade Takes Effect
Description:
This marked a major point in the abolitionist movement. Importation of slaves was outlawed in the entire US and it was a criminal act to do it. This obviously affected work and trade as it decreased the supply of cheap labor avaliable to the South and also made a large dent in trade as this was one of our largest industries.
