jun 1, 1822 - Denmark Vesey's slave rebellion
Description:
This slave revolt was the largest one ever planned in American history. The plan was to completely overthrow Charleston, but they were discovered and the plan ultimately failed.
The effect of this on American culture was that slaves were shown as having legitimate power to fight back. It further emphasized the divide that slavery was causing in American culture between abolitionists and slave owners.
