sep 1, 1800 - Gabriel's rebellion
Description:
in 1800, Gabriel Prosser led a slave rebellion in Richmond that was ultimately unsuccessful. While it was discovered and foiled, it was still one of the first planned slave revolts in American history.
It had a massive effect on American and regional culture, because it was an example of slaves in the South planning to revolt. It illustrated that the slaves were not content and it showed the southern slave owners that their power and industry was under threat, which changed the landscape of the south and shifted the general attitude towards slaves.
