Description:
Thomas Jefferson bought the Louisiana Territory from France for $15 million. This doubled the size of the United States while also giving France money for them to use towards the Napoleonic Wars. This event allowed the US to access the New Orleans port and the Mississippi River. Both of these things made trade easier. The Mississippi River allowed farmers to more easily transport crops, and the port was used to ship of those aforementioned crops.Added to timeline:
