jan 1, 97 - Death of Apollonius of Tyana?
Description:
Apollonius was born around the turn of the era, and is reported to have died around the very end of the first century (see his biography, "The Life of Apollonius" by Philostratus the Elder).
Apollonius was a neopythagorean from Anatolia who taught and performed miracles. In some respects, his description maps onto descriptions of Jesus, but the comparison cannot be pushed too far. Apollonius, along with other figures like Honi the Circle-Drawer and Hanina Ben Dosa, are instructives against the totalizing uniqueness of Jesus qua miracle-worker.
