Description:
Shortly after escaping the siege of Oxford, Charles I ran away to the Scottish Presbyterian army at Newark. He was guarded at Southwell until they decided what to do with him. He was later sold for 40 pounds in a deal with Parliament. Charles I was handed over to the Parliamentary forces in 1647, and was executed later in January 1649.
