Universal Audio 1176: In 1966 Bill Putman, who is the founder of universal audio, redesigned his successful 176/176 limiting amplifier using FETs instead of values. He created the first incarnation of the 1176 peak limiter, a compressor that went on to be in almost every pro studio in the world.
