mar 1, 1938 - Expropriation of US, Dutch, and British oil companies in Mexico.

Description:

The taking ff possession of pr private property, in this case oil was caused by labor disputes and caused Mexico to be accused of violating international law. The US was enraged and demanded compensation, but Mexico knowing they could not intervene decided to stay the same and proceed like nothing happened. They were refused loans and terminated from the Export-import Bank and US businesses boycotted Mexican business which suggested an economic rivalry. This is important because the willingness of the US to negotiate with Mexico was an indicative shift in the Good neighbour policy due to the onset of war in Asia and Europe.
