1 Tim, 2 Tim and Titus likely composed somehwere between the beginning and middle of the second century CE. Referred to as "pastoral" because they presume a largely established community and are concerned with community and identity maintenance more than missionary activity.

In many ways, these letters have more in common with the letters of Ignatius of Antioch and 1 Clement than with the undisputed letters of Paul. They are aware of the kinds of later debates characteristic of these later figures.
