mar 1, 1933 - Dachau opened
Description:
Dachau was the first Nazi concentration camp opened in March 1933. It was where opponents of the regime were taken to be questioned, tortured, used for labour and "re-educated".
By 1939 there was a massive business in using prisoners for slave labour.
Camps were used to keep people who were racially impure such as Jews, Gypsies and homosexuals.
These camps spread fear amongst the ordinary German people.
