A lengthy campaign launched by the Allies with the intention of weakening the Ottoman Empire by cutting of their supply lines along the Gallipoli peninsula. After 9 long months of fighting the Allies are forced to retreat. With over 300 thousand casualties for the allies and over 250 thousand for the Ottomans. The allies retreat was considered a massive success for the Ottomans, Turkey in particular. This battle would eventually inspire the Turkish War of Independence. With Kemal Atatürk, who rose to prominence as a commander at Gallipoli, as founder and president.
