mar 18, 1766 - Repeal of Stamp Act and Passage of Declaratory Act

Description:

Colonists were outraged over the Stamp Act and responded strongly. There were violent protests and riots, and Americans even began shutting down businesses and offices as a form of denouncing the act. With the trouble the colonies were making for the British government, they had no choice but to repeal the Stamp Act. Though it was repealed, it was replaced with the Declaratory Act to demonstrate the king’s right to tax the colonies in whatever way he wanted, asserting his right over the colonies. Colonies ignored this and rejoiced over the repeal, as it was a small victory for the colonies.
