oct 7, 1763 - The Proclamation of 1763
Description:
The Proclamation of 1763, or the Proclamation Line, was meant to prevent westward settlement past the Appalachians. The British rationale for doing this was to appease the natives after The French and Indian War, in hope that they would ally with the British against the French. It was also meant to help tighten control over the colonies. The colonies were unhappy about this, as they felt they had been fighting for the right to expand westward but couldn’t and failed to comply.
