Description:

After the French people took away most of the power of the King and Queen, other monarchs felt threatened and were scared that their people would rise up against them. Because of their fear, countries started to put armies at their borders around France. In France, many revolutionaries felt that a war would unite the people and would strengthen the revolution. At the beginning of the war, Austria steadily advanced to Paris but slowly the French army rallied back and started to defeat Austria. A consequence of the war was that food shortages increased in cities which increased violence among the people over food.
