dec 16, 1773 - Title: Tea Act Date: December 16, 1773 The Tea Act was passed in order to save the East India Company from bankruptcy (lowered taxes it paid to the British government). Colonist merchants were angered because the act created a monopoly and the merchants were at a huge disadvantage.
