Description:
The second Myanmar Empire, the Hanthawaddy kingdom was founded by King Wareru, which ruled over lower Burma near present-day Mon state. The official language was Mon, and Therevada Buddhism was the state religion. The state thrived after the collapse of the powerful kingdom of Bagan and under a chain of clever and powerful monarchs. It was a famous trade center, from the Indian ocean to nearby Siam. Foreign commerce made the kingdom prosperous.
