may 27, 1787 - Virginia Plan
Description:
The Virginia Plan was put forth by the Virginian delegation at the Constitutional Convention. It proposed to created a government divided into three branches: executive, legislative, and judicial. More importantly, the plan proposed a bicameral legislature, and each state would be represented in proportion to the state's population in both houses. This proposal benefitted larger and more populated states like Virginia as they would have more representatives compared to smaller states. Most of the Virginia Plan was adopted in the final Constitution as the delegates reached compromises concerning the contentious issues.
