apr 9, 2009 - DHS Report: Rightwing Extremism
Description:
The Dept. of Homeland Security's Office of Intelligence and Analysis releases a report detailing that an uncertain economy, the election of the first African American President, and social media's growing influence could combine with xenophobic anti-immigration fears, fears of gun control, and anti-abortion sentiment.
This combination, according to the Office of Intelligence and Analysis, had the potential to greatly increase the ease of Far-Right extremist recruiting efforts.
The report was widely condemned in conservative circles. Notably then-Minority Leader John Boehner, then-Kansans Rep. Mike Pompeo, former Speaker of the House New Gingrich, and conservative blogger Michelle Malkin.
