Description:
As soon as Jack heard that war was declared he instantly went to enlist, but he was rejected because of his weak lungs. Two weeks later, John joins the Royal North West Mounted Police as they were looking for recruits. He made all the requirements and passed the examinations. His lungs didn't seem to be a problem for the job.
John was sent to Depot Division, Regina, for training. "At the age of thirty, he had a new chance in life. He resolved to excel as an officer of the law."
After months of intense training he graduated in the RNWMP.
This is important because this is the first really big step while living in Canada. He begins to invest more into this other life. It foreshadows that he won't be going home for quite a while.
