Hitler joins the army Hitler entered the army with 3,600 other men and at the end it mustered to only 611. Hitler achieved the Iron Cross First Class award and his unit was 16th Bavarian Reserve Regiment. Hitler was a brave solider, people say one of the bravest that meant he was promoted to the rank of Corporal, was wounded twice (in 1916 and 1918), and was awarded several medals. In October 1918, Hitler was partially blinded in a mustard gas attack, He was sent to a military hospital and slowly recovered. After Germany surrendered Hitler was angry and a heat bubble appeared in his heart, that’s when it all started. The army didn’t really help him get power but him being a veteran and losing the war, make him angry, frustrated and braver.
