14h 10min, mar 25, 1885 y - The Battle of Duck Lake

Description:

On March 25, 1885, Dumont and his 300 men raided the local store in Duck Lake, Saskatchewan for supplies. The day after the raid 100 North-West Mounted Police attempted to capture Dumont and his group. Dumont instructed his men to hide, while his brother and a Cree Elder spoke to the police. A fight broke out and men died on both sides and the North-West Mounted Police retreated.

Within a month of the Battle of Duck Lake, there were 3000 thousand government troops, who arrived by train, were ready to fight the Metis. The railway also carried supplies including an early model of the machine gun - The Gatling gun. This gun could fire 100 rounds of ammunition per minute. These troops were led by Major-General Frederick Middleton
