Description:
After being exiled, Louis Riel returned to Saskatchewan after 4 Metis men, including Gabriel Dumont, convinced him to aid their protests against the federal government. Riel and Dumont organized an army of 300 men from various First Nation groups. The men signed a secret oath and on March 19th, 1885 a provisional government was created. Riel, who began to refer to himself as "Prophet of the New World" was appointed president while Dumont was in charge of the militia.
