The Vocoder is something that analyzes and synthesizes the human voice signal for audio data compression, multiplexing, voice encyption and many other things. In the early 1970’s the musical Vocoder was built specifically for the German synthesizer band ‘Kraftwerk’ and they used it to put a creepy robotic voice onto their tracks. The earliest type of vocoder, the channel vocoder, was originally developed as a speech coder for telecommunications applications in the 1930s, the idea being to code speech in order to reduce bandwidth
