Midway was bombed in the morning by aircraft launched from the Kido Butai (fleet of 4 Aircraft Carriers). The Japanese fleet was unable to detect 3 US Carriers to the Northeast and as a result 3 of the 4 carriers were destroyed by 50 dive bombers from the North and south. proved to be a major defeat to the Imperial Japanese Navy.
