jan 1, 1855 - Bleeding Kansas

Description:

As per the Kansas-Nebraska act the territory of Kansas would decide whether it would become a free state or a slave state based on the vote of its citizens, or popular sovereignty. However, both Southerners and Abolitionists flocked to Kansas to sway the vote in favor of the side they supported, leading the losing Abolitionist side to claim the vote was illegitimate and led to several violent struggles between Abolitionists led by John Brown and Southerners in the territory
