"Separate but equal." First set of segregation laws in the South, known as the Jim Crow laws, were enacted. This made it legal for the separation of blacks and whites in places such as: schools, transportation, restaurants, bathrooms, movie theaters, etc. Plessy v Ferguson was the first case that tested these laws.
