jan 7, 1848 - First Public health act
Description:
Britain allowed local authorities to make improvement if they wanted. It allowed local authorities to borrow money to pay for the improvements. It was very ineffective however as it wasn't compulsory and so many local authorities did nothing and had a very Laissez-faire approach to the whole act.
It created the general board of health to oversee the affects of local councils and local boards had controlof water supplies, streets cleaning, sewers and public lavatories.
