Description:

First day for the NHS hospitals were nationalised , health centres were set up and doctors were more evenly distributed. However, the popularity and costs rapidly spiralled out of control the 2 million set aside for free glasses was meant to last a year but lasted only 6 weeks. The government estimated the Nhs would cost 140M in 1950 however it costed 358M instead that year.

The National Health Service, abbreviated to NHS, was launched by the then Minister of Health in Attlee’s post-war government, Aneurin Bevan, at the Park Hospital in Manchester. The motivation to provide a good, strong and reliable healthcare to all was finally taking its first tentative steps.
