This Night Journey details the Isra and Mi'raj two parts of the legend of Muhammad's ascent to Heaven.
In the accounts of the Isra’, Muhammad is said to have traveled on the back of a winged mule-like white beast, called Buraq, to "the farthest mosque" by tradition identified as the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. At the mosque, Muhammad is said to have led the other prophets of God in prayer.
The Mi‘raj describes Muhammad's ascent to heaven lead by the Angel Jibra'il through the seven stages of heaven, speaking with the Prophets. Finally Jibra'il and Muhammad reached the Holy Tree in the Seventh Heaven, where God instructed Muhammad.
