sep 10, 149 BC - Beginning of Praetorian Law
Description:
The Praetor Urbanus gained jurisdiction over judicial proceedings. Though past edicts were often readopted, each new praetor had the power to issue his own Praetor's Edict, which was a list of legal principles to be followed when making judicial decisions. Praetorian law's use of precedent could be seen as a precursor to common law.
