jan 1, 719 BC - Gela Steals the Lumen From Brander and it Wilts.

Description:

Created by Merisk, Gela's purpose was to protect all that dwelt in the shadows cast by the Lumen, and was once named the "Keeper in the Gloom". But as Merisk had grown jealous of Solrisk's luminosity, Gela coveted the alabaster light of the Lumen, and in a fit of greed attempted to steal it and draw it into herself so that she could shine bright as it did.

She came upon Brander, who protected the Lumen always as he had been tasked to by Solrisk upon his conception, and lied to him brazenly, telling him that the First Fool itself, Állteir, had whispered the name of Brander in a fit of fleeting cognizance, and that the Aspects had summoned him to the Keep at the Edge of All to see if the First would react in some way upon seeing him. Brander believed this lie wholeheartedly, as the dissociative state of the First had worsened as the millennia waned, so he sped towards the edge of the Existence and left Gela to care for the Lumen.

When she was sure that Brander was gone, she took the Lumen in her hands and began to drain its radiance, hoping to gain its luminosity by melding with it.

She was successful, in a way, for her form did indeed light up with a gentle pale light, but what Gela had not foreseen was that she could not take all the radiance of the Lumen into herself. She drank from it until she could not more, and then left swiftly as Brander, the Keeper of the Lumen, sped back to its charge to see what had happened to it.

Gela rejoiced at seeing the new light that she cast, but soon she realized that the gloom in which she dwelt had grown greater and had begun to blanket more and more land. She gazed towards the Lumen and doom befell her, for she saw the consequences of her theft: the Lumen was wilting, dimming with every moment. She panicked, fearing Brander's retribution, and hid in the far reach of Ár, where the Betrayers would protect them against if any god allied to the First approached her.

The Lumen thus wilted, until its light shone no more. The Existence was cast into darkness, and Brander sought solace to carry out the penance for his carelessness. No light shone in the Állteirfarr; none, save Gela's.Her pale light became the only confort for the inhabitants of Ár, and for a time she rejoiced at the devotion these beings offered her. But her contentment was not to last, for her creator Merisk came upon her one day and saw in her luminescence the guilt of her crime. The Liege of the Great Mirk had no love for Solrisk's spawn, but it knew that the Lumen was vital for mortal life to thrive in the Existence. Gela beheld this truth then, as she saw the how plants wilted without the Lumen's light and how the pale countenances of humans grew gaunter by the day. Gela, whose purpose was to care for all who dwelt in the dark, felt immense grief upon witnessing the consequences of her crime, and pleaded to Merisk for any guidance on how she could repent.

The Liege of the Great Mirk beheld Gela's Light and saw indeed a ghost of the Lumen's. It told Gela that if she sought to atone for her mistakes, then she would need to give something of herself to the creatures of the Existence that she endangered.

Gela understood, and thus concentrated to bring together all the light of the Lumen that had stolen, binding it into the shape of a great sphere which she then cast into the Állteirfarr.

This became the moon, whose light was a meager thing compared to that of the Lumen, but was enough for all mortal lives to eke out an existence under it.

This Light was all that comforted the creatures of Ár during the Long Night, but only in intervals, for the Existence is vast and the light of the Moon is not as far-reaching as that of the Lumen was. To ensure the survival of all the creatures in the Existence, the Moon travels across the Állteirfarr every single day, bringing its pale light to all the gloom-ridden realms.

The crime of Gela branded her as an outcast of almost the same caliber as the Betrayers, and thus when Brander splintered himself into the Lords of Starlight it was to Ár where Gela brought her Moon permanently, as it was among the Betrayers that she found her place in the pantheon of men.
