Nineteen men associated with the Islamic group al-Qaeda hijacked four fuel-loaded US commercial airplanes that planned to go to their west coast destinations. The World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and near Shanksville Pennsylvania. 3000 people were killed in the results of these attacks.
The first attack was at the World Trade Center 2 of the hijacked planes intentionally crashed into the building.
About 343 firefighters and 23 police officers died trying to save the people at this attack.
At the Pentagon, in Washington Dc, 184 people were killed when the hijacked airplane crashed into the building.
near Shanksville, Pensylvania 40 people were on the plane, but 93 people died when it crashed into the field. It is believed that it crashed on the field and not somewhere else because the people on the plane was trying to take over

The importance of this event is that it was the worst terrorist attack in U.S history. THis event chnaged the Untied States and how they do things.
