jan 1, 1878 - Standard Time - 1878 Although its not a concrete thing, the invention of standard time helped communication worldwide, not just in Canada. Sir Sandford Fleming developed the concept of synchronizing clocks into an order determined by a countries location. It allowed easier communication through the world.
