Description:

Summary: The autobiography of Jackie Robinson, who was the first African- American Major League baseball player in 1947. Story follows his tough transition into the league as he faces discrimination and hate from his own teammates, opposing teammates, and baseball fans. Jackie is forced to take all this hatred and is unable to retaliate in any way because he is now representing the whole black community.

Racism: Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier in sports and has become a legend and idol in America. Baseball used to be separated by color, with the Major League and Negro Leagues. When Jackie joined the team, he told from almost everyone that he didn't belong. He was viciously harassed every time he took the field and was forced to peacefully accept it. The racism went as far as an opposing pitcher intentionally hitting him in the head with a pitch. During this time period, segregation was big and colored people had their own separate section and bathrooms that they had to use at the games. This story shows us a lot of racism that Jackie faces, but as the film goes on, his teammates and Dodger fans begin to support and accept him. Shows us that integration is possible.
