nov 17, 1890 - Trade Unions formed
Description:
Since 1878 trade unions had been banned by Bismark's anti-socialist laws. These laws sunset in 1890 and so later that year the first trade unions were formed and in 1892 many merged together under an umbrella organisation (the General commission of Unions in Germany). By 1914 they represented over 3 million Germans.
Wages were low and the conditions in which the workers were working in were poor and so trade unions were very popular. The unions worked together to organise strikes and campaign for change.
