After kissing Siddhartha, Kamala lands Siddhartha a job with a wealthy merchant named Kamaswali. Siddhartha quickly gets the hang of his responsibilities and continues to love his job, however, his real love still lies with Kamala. He is not emotionally attached to his job as he is with his love for Kamala, she teaches him the art of sex and kissing as well as the true meaning of love when with Kamala. As Siddhartha continues to get taught about love, and as his job continues to do better and better, Siddhartha continues to get wealthier, greedy, jealous, and unhappy. He continues to become more depressed which eventually forces him to leave the village.

Character Relationships: An extreme element of a close character relationship in this section is when Siddhartha has sex with Kamala. In order for Kamala to teach Siddhartha the art of love, she decides they must make love in order to properly show Siddhartha how to achieve this step so that he can properly achieve his goal of enlightenment.
