Description:

After deciding to follow and being accepted into the Samanas, Siddhartha and Govinda go to hear and take in teachings of the Buddha. Govinda accepts and decides to follow the teachings of the Buddha while Siddhartha believes that he cannot follow and states that one must reach Nirvana on their own in order to find one's self. Siddhartha is still confused and is still in search in finding one self, as a result, he leaves on his own.

Character Relationships: Siddhartha shows independence and separation from other characters in this section as he had decided that he must learn how to achieve enlightenment on his own rather than to follow the guidance of anyone else, such as Govinda or even the Buddha himself. He decides to go on his journey alone.
