jan 1, 1780 - Massachusetts Bay Colony

Description:

In the Massachusetts Bay Colony, Puritan beliefs reigned supreme. There was a strong tie between religion and government there, and Puritan beliefs held that women were inferior to men and should be subservient. They were thus not allowed to hold positions of importance and were largely consigned to child-rearing and housekeeping, with almost no social mobility whatsoever.
